An Athabascan folk tale: Bear met Porcupine and said, "I'm going to eat you, little sister."

"Are you now?" said Porcupine and slapped him smartly across the nose with her prickly tail. Bear rolled on the ground in agony and cried "Take them out, little sister, and I promise I'll never bother you again." Porcupine laughed but she took out the quills and to this day Bear walks a long way around when he sees Porcupine.
